New blog domain and comment section

cpp

Last time I wrote about why I have to disable the comment section. Today I am happy to announce that I have a new comment system, and I also moved to blog to a new domain.

Giscus comments

Even if my blog is hosted on GitLab, I use GitHub for comments now.

The reason is simple. Writing about developer topics, I can assume most people visiting this site have a GitHub account. And with Giscus, there is a nice and easy to integrate solution that turns blog comments into GitHub Discussions.

a4z.noexcept.dev, the new home

This is now the second time I am moving this site to a new location. I wanted to move the site to a domain I own for quite a while. Now, with the adoption of the comment system, it felt right to do that.

NoExcept is a small community-based side project I started recently. It emerged out of SwedenCpp and is an invitation based community of professionals in Sweden, people I know personally and whose skills I trust.

I might write more about NoExcept in some future posts.

About this update

It is not complicated to move a blog, but it involves quite a few steps and is therefore time-consuming. Redirects, link adaptations, search console updates, domain verifications, …
I am using this Saturday to do all those steps, since I have a mild flu and need to stay in bed. So this seemed like the perfect activity to kill time, and now it’s done. Hopefully I haven’t forgotten any step.

It is a bit sad that the old comments are no longer available, especially for the BitBake tutorial. But I hope new comments will come and fill the gap.

Please feel free to add a comment below and test the new system, so I know it works. 🙂
