SwedenCpp 2025
As this year comes to an end, it is time for my yearly SwedenCpp summary. Here’s what happened. As promised last year, this year’s summary will be shorter.
Quick facts:
-
SwedenCpp Pro Meetup Group’s member count increased by ~10%.
I am very happy about this balance, seeing that Gothenburg is as active as Stockholm. This is the most active year of GbgCpp's existence. Big thank you to the organizer team, Dave and Daniel. 🚀
The SwedenCpp Pro Partner Network
This year I especially want to highlight our SwedenCpp Pro partner network and their importance. Without these sponsors, SwedenCpp would not exist as it does. Maybe not at all anymore.

About the SwedenCpp Pro Partner Network
So, what is the SwedenCpp Pro Partner Network?
Besides hosting one of our events, Pro Partners support the group with a moderate donation.
This allows me to pay for the Meetup costs, which are higher than you might expect, and compensate some of the hours I invest for the planning and organizing of the events.
Meetup Pro is not cheap; having a pro account is the only option for showing sponsors on the page and having access to the Meetup GraphQL API. And it pays for both groups, StockholmCpp and GbgCpp.
And for Stockholm, every time I organize an event, I lose at least a half, often a full, working day. I know organizing an evening can be done with much less effort, but
-
this is how I am, I do things thoroughly, or I don’t do them
-
we always have at least 2 talks per evening, and this require more planning
-
I occasionally bring speakers from abroad and sponsor their trips
This adds up; together with the SwedenCpp homepage and the video work for the SwedenCpp YouTube channel which take even more of my time.
And there is a return for the companies. Their name is shown on my LinkedIn posts, and in the videos of our YouTube channel. So I provide a real service.
Personal summary
This year was pretty tough, due to multiple reasons. One was, that the first three events I had to do with a damaged meniscus. Pretty painful. Luckily, this got fixed around Easter. Well, kind of 'fixed'. My knee is now missing a part.
Meetup organizer
I organized 8 Meetups, and gave 8 intros.
I added a C++ quiz section to the end of each intro. I think this is fun, but it makes preparing the slides more work. Much more work, so I will see if I can continue doing that.
Meetup talks
I did three talks, I think. All in the second half of the year. Hopefully people don’t get bored by seeing me.
YouTube(r) status
I managed to record all our talks in Stockholm and did not lose any, as far as I remember. So that was quite a lot of work. All those videos are now available on the SwedenCpp YouTube channel. And I made around 700 Swedish Kronas of income from it. Not a lot of coffee ☕️ But I enjoy the creation part of the work.
Additionally, I co-organize another Meetup, CocoaHeads Stockholm, where I also did some video work: recording, editing and publishing. Those videos are on the CocoaHeads Stockholm YouTube channel.
X and Bsky release bots
This year I created the bsky and X (former twitter) bots. In TypeScript, just for fun.
They announce over 100 GitHub releases and post conference videos and podcasts as soon as they go online. It was fun to write this app, and I am looking forward to the next iteration of it.
SwedenCpp 2026 Preview
We will continue in 2026, but I cannot estimate how it will look.
In Stockholm, my call for papers is at an all-time low. Some of our most active members do not even work with C++ anymore. That’s a severe loss that cannot easily be compensated, and I cannot invite enough speakers to Stockholm.
We will see. Here is what I can say.
SwedenCpp 10th anniversary,
2026 will be SwedenCpp’s 10th anniversary.
I hoped I could organize a special event because of it, but as it looks now, this will not be possible. It was close to happening, but life took a different turn. We’ll go with what we have; there will be some nice Meetups anyway.
SwedenCpp homepage update
The SwedenCpp homepage requires an update. It’s still the NodeJS app I wrote years ago.
For next year, I plan to move both parts of the app and redo the website. I won’t tell in which language. You might be surprised. I have working drafts on my disk in two different languages and I like them both 🤓
Summary and conclusion
Starting into the 10th season makes me wonder how long I will be able to continue with this hobby.
A lot of things happened during these 10 years, and I start to think about change. I have some tasks on my todo list that I could not start due to time limitation, and maybe it will be time to re-adjust priorities. We will see.
For now, I am looking forward to our season start in January, and then, whatever happens will happen.
